Then Sings My Soul Saturday...........It Is Well

Join us at Amy's for more great songs!

The first video seems to be   perfect for the first day of Spring.  I love the old hymnals, so I thought I would share some of my favorites today.

Have a blessed weekend!!!  Outdoors is calling me the high today is upper 70's.

"It Is Well with My Soul" is a very influential hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss.

~~history~~

This hymn was written after several traumatic events in Spaffords life. The first was the death of his only son in 1871, shortly followed by the great Chicago Fire which ruined him financially (he had been a successful lawyer). Then in 1873, he had planned to travel to Europe with his family on the S.S. Ville du Havre, but sent the family ahead while he was delayed on business concerning zoning problems following the Great Chicago Fire. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank rapidly after a collision with a sailing ship, the Loch Earn, and all four of Spafford's daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, "Saved alone." Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died.

  1. It's so great to be able to see these old songs still evoking those feelings from so long ago, much like the souls from a different time period. It connects us to one another through time.

  6. I'm so glad you posted "It's is Well" too because I got to listen to it again on your post. Man, I love that song and I love that It is Well with my soul too. Thank you too for post the story behind the song. I can't even imagine what he must have been going through in that terrible loss, but oh the peace in knowing that it is well with your soul. I also like that last song you posted. My husband sings that song, but it's been a long time since he's sung it and I really enjoyed hearing it again.
Hope you have a great weekend.

  7. Loved each one of these songs. I'm always amazed at how "It is Well with my Soul" was penned. I doubt I would respond in the same manner.
